PORT, COFFS, KEMPSEY AND THE MID-NORTH COAST FORGOTTEN IN THE FEDERAL BUDGET

The final budget of the Abbott Turnbull Morrison Government confirmed they have little to offer the people of Port, Coffs, Kempsey and the mid-north coast.

We are the forgotten people under this government.

We heard nothing new from the government on addressing our youth unemployment crisis; lowering the 2,000 plus aged care home package waiting list; making housing more affordable; fixing the NBN or accelerating renewables and reducing electricity prices.

Wages, schools, hospitals and pensions didn’t rate a mention.

Indeed, there are some useful measures in the budget. But these are core business of government. They expect congratulations for doing what they’re meant to do. On some other things, they’ve simply caught up with Labor’s policies.

The Liberals Nationals triumphantly talk about the national unemployment figures.

In parts of the mid-north coast, general unemployment is double that of Sydney. Youth unemployment in parts averages out at near 25 per cent. In some specific areas, there are spikes of 50 per cent.

They have forgotten about us. We don’t count under the Nationals.

There are four critical issues in this election locally – addressing unemployment, acting on climate change, reducing inequality and bringing integrity back to government.

With this budget, they’re none from four.
